In an effort to be EVEN MORE outdoorsy (the bar is low but by gosh we’re raising it) we decided to spend a night camping at Suwannee River State Park! This was Nichole’s first time camping ever, and the first time for me in over a decade. The night was hot and humid and we saw way more ticks than I ever wanted to in such a short time, but overall the trip was a success.
This was also the first hiking trail for our dog, Mable! She was worn out when it was over, but she had a lot of fun too.
There are a few trails in Suwannee River State Park, including part of the Florida Trail, but after a long night sweating and being paranoid about ticks we only had the energy for a 3-mile amalgamation of 3 different trails that crossed over each other. If I remember right, we started out on the Suwannee River Trail, went on to the Lime Sink Run Trail and finished out on Balancing Rock Trail. We’re hoping to come back and do the 12-mile trail that is part Florida Trail some time when the weather cools off later in the year.
Probably the nicest thing about having a cooler with us for camping was being able to crack open a beer after a hike. We’ll be camping again in a couple weeks up in Helen, GA — our first mountain hike!! We’re pretty excited, and hopefully some great pictures will come from that too.
